Definitive Stagger Lee |
Since we talked about definitive the other day, I have been trying to keep alert to any extraordinary or, dare I say, definitive versions.
Now, I may be partial since I like this whole show but the Stagger Lee from Nashville (1978-12-16) is definitely the definitive version. Everytime you think "that's it" they run it up the flagpole again. It's just crushing.

12-16-78 is a great show, but I just cant stand Bobby's slide guitar at the end. In one of Blair Jackson's book he asked if Jerry stopped playing Stagger Lee because of Bobby and Jerry seemed to agree with the premise of the question. Check out 4-7-87 as a sleeper version (and a great show with a big Dew)
